Season opening in Wisla has just ended. It was a really emotional contest that proved that Polish organizers know how to organize such an important competition. Nobody before them has ever tried to held season opening so early. Usually the inauguration takes place during last weekend of November in Scandinavian countries. All the tickets for the contest were sold out, so 8 thousand of fans have been waiting for an exciting competition after the good performance of Polish athletes in the team competition – they don’t let down the spectators.
5 Polish ski jumpers was in the top10 after the first round of the competition, the rivalry was close and interesting. Dawid Kubacki had the biggest chance to stand on the podium with his jump of 125 metres – that was the third place in the classification. Four other Polish athletes were at the end of top 10 – Maciej Kot, Kamil Stoch, Piotr Żyła and Stefan Hula – they were from 7 to 10. A lot has changed in the final round and many of them didn’t jump as far as before. Maciej Kot ended the competition at 19th position, Dawid Kubacki at 10th, Piotr Żyła and Stefan Hula were ex aequo at 7th position. Everybody could count on Kamil Stoch – he was the 8th after the first round, but in the final one he jumped 8.5 metres more. By the end of the competition he was at the 2nd position. – In my opinion I made a good performance this weekend what is proved by my jumps from trail rounds and competition’s rounds. Contest in Wisla is a good beginning of the season. – said the best athlete of Polish team – As a team we are perfectly prepared for this long winter season. Weekend in Wisla is a positive surprise for me. I knew that the contests would be tough, but all I wanted to do was just to do my job, make far and stable jumps. I want to thank to all the coaching staff who prepared us for the contest – added Kamil Stoch.
Stefan Kraft from Austria stood at the third step of the podium, he lost only 0.5 of point to Kamil. For both of the athletes it was the second chance to be on the podium during the season opening in Wisla-Malinka. Junshiro Kobayashi from Japan was the unexpected winner of the individual competition at Adam-Malysz-hill. For this 27-years-old athlete it was the first win in World Cup. Today he made two good, stable jumps of 124 and 126.5 metres. - It was a really close and tough competition today. It was a little bit surprising that the win went to him and that he is mentally so strong to have two good jumps. Junshiro was really good in the summer season and in overall classification. He practised a lot during summer and he will be in a good shape in winter – said Stefan Kraft.

The general classification of the World Cup is the same as the results of the individual competition. Poland is leading in the Nations Cup before Norway, Austria and Germany. The next step in the World Cup is Ruuka (Finland).
