FIS Grand Prix Wisła 2019: Zajc the best in the qualifications! Three Polish athletes in top10

The best ski jumpers in the world inaugurated summer season on Friday, 19th July 2019, at Adam Malysz Hill in Wisla-Malinka. Polish athletes performed well in the qualifications for Sunday’s individual competition, almost all of them got qualified to the event. Timi Zajc from Slovenia won the qualifications with a jump of 128 meters long, whereas Dawid Kubacki was the second with a jump of 124.5 meters and Markus Eisenbichler was the third with a jump of 126.5 meters.

A lot of supporters at Adam Małysz Hill cheered on the best ski jumpers in the world during the qualifications. 61 athletes from 12 countries participated in the event. 12 Polish contestants took part in the qualifications and among them 11 ski jumpers will perform on Sunday.

Three Polish ski jumpers ended the qualifications in top10. Dawid Kubacki was the best among them, he was the second and jumped 124.5 meters. – I missed a little bit the competitions, but not a lot – says with a smile on his face – After the work we done, it is nice to go back to the rivalry and to feel the adrenaline. The truth is that we train to verify the shape during the competitions and those are the days when we do what we love. The cooperation with our new coach goes very well. The truth is that the most important is our work during training and camps, when we try to eliminate our mistakes.

Jakub Wolny ended the qualifications two places behind Kubacki and jumped 130.5 meters, whereas Aleksander Zniszczoł (133 meters) was 6th. Also Andrzej Stękała had a good performance with a jump of 132.5 meters (12 place). Piotr Żyła was finished just behind him with a jump of 122 meters.

For Sunday’s individual competition of FIS Grand Prix Wisła 2019 were also qualified: Paweł Wąsek (23rd place, 121 m), Kacper Juroszek (24th place, 127 m), Kamil Stoch (28th place, 118 m), Maciej Kot (31st place, 121 m), Klemens Murańka (40th place, 123 m) and Tomasz Pilch (44th place, 120.5 m). Unfortunately Stefan Hula won’t participate in the individual competition, because he jumped 110.5 meters and ended the qualifications at 52nd position.

Top10 athletes from the qualification just after their ended went to the center of Wisla. The bib distribution ceremony took, in which participated three Polish ski jumpers, took place in the amphitheatre.

On Saturday the team competition, in which 10 nations participate, will took place at Adam Małysz Hill in Wisla-Malinka. Polish Head Coach decided that Piotr Żyła, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Kamil Stoch and Dawid Kubacki will represent their country and fight for the best place. The competition is planned for 8.15 pm.

- Piotr Żyła, Kamil Stoch and Dawid Stocha are our top 3 athletes who would participate for sure in the team competition. Thanks to trainings I know what they are capable of. Only the fourth participant was unsure, the fight was between Jakub Wolny and Aleksander Zniszczoł. Today Olek performed very well,  better than Jakub, that’s why he will have the possibility to jump tomorrow – says the Head Coach. – Today was the day of our first exam after the changes in the coaching staff. The most positive was the fact that there were some changes in the in-run speed of Kamil Stoch. The best speed belonged to Dawid Kubacki, Kuba Wolny was placed just behind him and we are contented of that.
